CBC News is designing new ways for Canadians to understand and navigate their finances, helping them make sense of a myriad of complex economic realities through expanded financial and consumer storytelling.
To help audiences discover that content when they want it, on their platform of choice, we’re hiring a Senior Coordinating Producer to join the CBC Audience Growth team. This is an opportunity to help shape and grow a new destination for practical, news-you-can-use financial journalism.
In this role, you’ll sit right where editorial meets audience growth, collaborating with content teams across CBC News, Entertainment and Sports to make CBC a top destination for financial journalism and related content.
You play a critical role in identifying new audiences, and advising on the best strategies and tactics to reach them across CBC digital properties, FAST channels, CBC Gem, CBC linear channels, as well as on third-party platforms including Youtube and Tik Tok. You understand how to move people beyond discoverability and into loyal audiences who actively engage with our content, whether subscribing to newsletters, engaging with content and sharing videos. You search for opportunities to reflect a broad range of perspectives and voices in the content we share.
You are passionate about using audience insights to inform journalism decisions, capable of analyzing reach and engagement time and adjusting your tactics to ensure the best audience experience. You have knowledge of digital products, and our owned and operated, and third party platforms.
You are future-focused, open to experimenting with new technologies, audio/visual formats and content to meet changing audience needs.
You’re a collaborator, able to work with everyone from front-line journalists and program leaders, to colleagues across CBC genres to optimize CBC’s best digital, social, and broadcast journalism into one easy-to-find audience experience.
What you’ll do:
Own the digital publishing strategy for cross division financial reporting, working in close association with the CBC News publishing team, including aggregation, packaging, lineup management and other direct publishing functions.
Help manage push alerts, newsletters, YouTube and TikTok packaging, alongside and as a part of the CBC News Audience Growth team.
Play a key role in planning and live event plans for major financial and money-related journalism. As required, verify user-generated content to ensure accuracy.
Coordinate work with business unit content teams currently based in Calgary and Toronto, as well as audio syndication, current affairs and podcasting to ensure a smooth workflow between platforms.
Aggregate, showcase and promote financial, business and consumer content from CBC News, CBC Entertainment and CBC Sports.
Use data and analytics to shape our headlines, thumbnails, and rollout plans.
Guide, coach and support colleagues on best-of-practices and through change as required, across local and network newsrooms.
Ensure that CBC journalistic standards are met and that our stories are fair, balanced, accurate, thoughtful, immediate and resonate with the communities we serve.
What you bring:
At least seven (7) years of recent experience in a large digital news environment,
Substantial experience writing, editing, packaging and copy editing digital content in a compelling way.
Some experience helping to launch or create new content initiatives.
Experience with content management systems such as Moveable Type, Media Central, MPX/The Platform, including ability to edit, photoshop and publish within those platforms; and basic HTML/CSS
Advanced knowledge of social platforms, including YouTube, Tik Tok, Snapchat and WhatsApp, including their algorithms and community features.
Proven ability to analyze performance metrics and audience data using measurement tools such as Chartbeat, Adobe analytics, Google Analytics.
Strong visualization skills, including experience in using graphics, charts and explainers to distill complex financial data into easily digestible and actionable content.
Ability to manage large volumes of fast-moving information and ensure material is distributed appropriately 24/7.
Excellent journalism skills with a strong general knowledge about Canadian and international economics, financial, business and consumer issues.
Ability to assign, manage and motivate staff and to coordinate with colleagues across departments in a productive manner and ability to mediate disputes as they arise.
Excellent journalistic and critical thinking skills, including a deep knowledge of the legal and ethical issues related to business and consumer journalism.
Demonstrated ability to bring new perspectives, voices and lived experiences into your daily journalism.
Strong communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills.
Ability and willingness to work flexible hours as required.
Possession of a valid driver’s license as well as a driving record that meets the minimum requirements of CBC/Radio-Canada's insurance company.
Candidates may be subject to skills and knowledge testing.
