We are currently seeking

Transit Operators

. This position requires a minimum 40-hour work week.Candidates must be available to work a variety of schedules and shifts, including nights, split shifts, weekends and holidays, with various scheduled days off. Work locations and schedules will be assigned based on operational requirements. Successful candidates will be assigned to operate a specific mode of transit vehicle, such as Bus, Streetcar, Subway, Light Rail Transit or Wheel-Trans bus.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Safely and efficiently operate assigned transit vehicles in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, operating procedures and TTC safety requirements.

Maintain continuous awareness of road, traffic, weather, vehicle, customer and operating conditions, and exercise sound judgment when responding to potential hazards, service disruptions, changing conditions and emergencies.

Provide customers with accurate information about fares, service routes, schedules, short turns, delays, diversions, emergency situations, and transit policies and regulations.

Make clear and timely announcements to customers, including identifying connecting route locations and communicating service information.

Demonstrate professional, respectful and courteous behaviour when interacting with customers, coworkers and members of the public.

Assist customers with mobility and accessibility needs by following prescribed procedures for vehicle equipment, door-to-door pick-up and drop-off, and the onboard securement of passengers.

Treat passengers and employees with respect and dignity and ensure that disability-related accommodation and accessibility needs are addressed within the area of responsibility, in accordance with the

Ontario Human Rights Code

and Related Orders.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND EXPERIENCE

Safety-conscious driver who demonstrates defensive driving practices, sound judgment and awareness of potential hazards.

Prior frontline, face-to-face customer service experience.

Ability to remain focused and respond appropriately to changing operating conditions, customer needs and emergency situations.

Ability to communicate professionally and courteously with customers, coworkers and members of the public while providing essential transit service.

Ability to read, understand and apply written rules, operating procedures and safety requirements, carry out verbal instructions, and write legibly.

Knowledge of the GTA’s major roads, intersections, institutions and surrounding areas.

MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS AND EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS

Possess a valid non-probationary Ontario Class “G” Driver's Licence in good standing with the ability to meet TTC’s corporate standard for a good driving record (see

Meet all legislated standards governing the issuance of a Class "CZ" Licence (for Bus Operator) or a Class “F” Licence (for Wheel-Trans Operator)

Possess a Grade 12 secondary school diploma or its recognized equivalent (see

Must successfully complete all mandatory stages of the Transit Operator recruitment and selection process, including applicable assessments (e.g., cognitive ability test, road safety written assessment, virtual panel interview, job shadowing assignment and in-vehicle driving assessment). Candidates who receive a conditional offer of employment must successfully complete a pre-placement medical examination and drug testing, along with all other applicable pre-employment conditions.

Must have or acquire comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders, including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements pertaining to passengers and employees.

Must attend and successfully complete TTC’s training program for the applicable vehicle mode, including all required practical and written tests.
