Job description

Make a meaningful impact by strengthening regulatory frameworks, managing risk, and protecting the public interest.

CPA Ontario is not like other organizations

We operate at a rare intersection, both regulator and membership body, responsible for upholding the integrity of the CPA designation while supporting more than 105,000 members and 19,000 students across the province. Our work sits between business and the public interest, between the evolving demands of industry and the standards that make trust possible.

Careers built here tend to look different because the work itself is different. You are not simply contributing to an organization. You are helping shape a profession that touches nearly every sector of the economy at a moment when expectations, technology, and the nature of work are all being rewritten

.

About This Opportunity:

CPA Ontario is seeking an experienced

Director, Deputy Registrar

to provide leadership in advancing regulatory excellence and public trust. Reporting directly to the Registrar, this role is responsible for developing and strengthening quality control and compliance oversight processes across the Office of the Registrar. Through leading complex operational reviews of Members and Firms, the Director, Deputy Registrar identifies regulatory risks, drives informed decision-making, and ensures appropriate action is taken to uphold professional standards.

What You’ll Be Doing:

Lead the review of complex regulatory issues and compliance obligations, providing strategic recommendations to senior leadership while ensuring effective oversight, governance, and control frameworks for members, firms, and revenue processes.

Support the Registrar’s Office and Public Accounting Licensing Board on complex and non-routine regulatory matters, appeals, and decision reviews, while collaborating with provincial counterparts to advance regulatory priorities and promote consistent approaches across jurisdictions.

Act as the Registrar’s delegate and designate, exercising delegated authority to review and approve member, firm, and student matters in alignment with regulatory requirements, policies, and decision-making frameworks.

Develop and lead compliance review and regulatory audit programs, providing risk-based oversight while advancing member and firm compliance through guidance, outreach, and cross-functional collaboration.

Oversee annual regulatory programs and lead the planning and execution of regulatory and operational initiatives, ensuring effective management of timelines, risks, dependencies, and stakeholder communications.

Oversee business planning initiatives, identify regulatory best practices, prepare detailed information and assumptions in support of forecasts and budgets and monthly variance reporting, develop deep understanding of revenue drivers and trends and identify opportunities for reporting enhancements including use of data analytics tools.

To Be Successful You Need:

A CPA designation and membership in good standing, with a minimum of 8 years of post-designation experience, preferably within a regulatory, compliance, or professional oversight environment.

A strong understanding of CPA Ontario's regulatory framework governing members, firms, and public accounting, with demonstrated ability to analyze, organize, and resolve complex regulatory matters.

Experience with financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis; experience supporting business planning activities is considered an asset.

Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, with strong digital acumen. Experience with Salesforce, Tableau, Power BI, or other data analytics tools is an asset, as is familiarity with artificial intelligence technologies and methodologies.

Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively present complex information and provide clear recommendations to executive leadership and other stakeholders.

Proven leadership capabilities, including experience leading projects, developing teams, and delivering training and coaching initiatives.

Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills, with sound judgment, attention to detail, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
